Prepare Returns for electronic transmission
You prepare your returns in the usual manner. You must also ensure that the data has been entered correctly and that the diagnostics have been verified.
You may have to make a few specific entries in the EFILE - Electronic Filing Worksheet (Jump Code: EFILE) and the QC EFILE - Electronic Filing Worksheet (Jump Code: QEFILE) forms.
After you have verified the diagnostics and the data input in the appropriate forms, the majority of the returns will become EFILE eligible, except for those that appear on the CRA and RQ list of exclusions.

Before a return can be electronically transmitted, it must be selected for EFILE. The program allows you to perform this selection in 2 ways: for the active return or for all the prepared returns.

- Create or edit a preparer profile.
- In the EFILE tab, under the first point of the "Canada Revenue Agency" section, select the Select the returns for EFILE check box.
The Select the returns for NetFile Québec check box available in the "Revenu Québec" section is automatically selected. To cancel the automatic selection of returns for NetFile Québec, clear the check box. - Click the
button to save the changes.

To select the active return for EFILE, proceed as follows:
- Display the Form Electronic Filing Worksheet (Jump Code: EFILE).
- In the "Information from the Preparer Profile" section, select the Select this return for EFILE check box.
- Click Yes to confirm.
To select the active return for NetFile Québec, proceed as follows:
- Display the Form Electronic Filing Worksheet - Québec (Jump Code: QEFILE).
- In the "Information from the Preparer Profile" section, select the Select this return for NetFile Québec check box.
- Click Yes to confirm.

The return must be authorized for EFILE for it to be transmitted to the tax authorities.
The program allows you to indicate this authorization in 2 ways; for the active return or for all the prepared returns.

To indicate that the active return is authorized for EFILE, proceed as follows:
- Display Form T183, Information Return for Electronic Filing of an Individual's Income Tax and Benefit Return (Jump Code: T183).
- In the "Information from the Preparer Profile" section, indicate that you authorize the return to be filed by clicking Yes.
- Click Yes to confirm.
To indicate that the active return is authorized for NetFile Québec, proceed as follows:
- Display Form TP-1000.TE-V, Online Filing of the Personal Income Tax Returns by an Accredited Person (Jump Code: Q1000).
- In the "Information from the Preparer Profile" section, indicate that you authorize the return to be filed by clicking Yes.
- Click Yes to confirm.

To indicate that all prepared returns are authorized for EFILE, it must be specified in the default preparer profile. To indicate your authorization, proceed as follows:
- Create or edit a preparer profile.
- In the EFILE
tab, under the second point of the subsection reserved for the Canada
Revenue Agency of the section "EFILE default information," select
the Authorization for all taxpayers
check box.
The Authorization for all taxpayers check box under the second point of the subsection reserved for Revenu Québec is not automatically selected. To authorize returns for NetFile Québec, this check box must be activated. - Click the
button to save the changes.

Once a return has been selected for EFILE and authorized, the program will determine if the return is eligible for EFILE.
The program designates a return's EFILE status as "Eligible" when the return:
- has been selected for EFILE;
- meets the eligibility requirements; and
- has been authorized for EFILE.
To verify if a return meets EFILE eligibility requirements, proceed as follows:
- Show the diagnostics pane.
- Click the EFILE tab to verify
the EFILE diagnostics.Note: The diagnostics are only generated after the return has been selected for EFILE, Alberta Net File.
If the return meets EFILE eligibility requirements and no EFILE diagnostics have been generated, the T1 EFILE and TP1 EFILE status will be changed to "Eligible" and the following diagnostics will appear:
"E001 - This return is eligible for EFILE. Prior to transmission, verify all general diagnostics, some of which may cause errors in your return."
"E003 - This return is eligible for EFILE. Prior to transmission, make sure that the taxpayer has signed Part E of Form T183, since the indicator granting you authorization to represent him or her has been selected. Verify all general diagnostics, some of which may cause errors in your return."
"QE001 - This return is eligible for NetFile Québec. Prior to transmission, verify all general diagnostics, some of which may cause errors in your return."
"QE003 - This return is eligible for NetFile Québec. Prior to transmission, make sure that the taxpayer has signed Part 3 of Form TP-1000, since the indicator granting you authorization to represent him or her has been selected. Verify all general diagnostics, some of which may cause errors in your return."
Errors detected
Errors that can cause the return to be rejected are indicated in the diagnostics pane under the EFILE tab. These must be corrected in order for the return to be eligible for EFILE.
In rare circumstances, it may occur that a diagnostic indicates an EFILE error, but you believe that the return will be accepted. This could occur, for example, if the government made an adjustment to its EFILE processing system after the release of the program. If the government has informed you that the return will be accepted, enter "Y" (yes) to answer the question Allow this return to be transmitted anyway? on the Electronic Filing Worksheet (Jump Code: EFILE) form and the Electronic Filing Worksheet - Québec (Jump Code: QEFILE form.
