Managing User Groups

To create a user group, proceed as follows:
- Click the
button, then click Advanced Network.
- In the toolbar located at the top of the view, click the New
button.
The Group Properties dialog box displays. - Define
the user group properties.
The user group properties consists of the following data:
Option name
Action
Name
Enter the name to use to identify the user group.
Details
Enter the information that identifies the type of users included in the group.
Allow local installation
Select this check box to allow users to install a copy of the complete version of the Personal Taxprep on their computer.
Note: It is not recommended to select this check box in a Citrix or Terminal Service work environment.
Work Off-line
Select this check box to allow users to work in an off-line mode, i.e., not being connected to the Taxprep server.
Disable the group
Select this check box to disable a user group. It is not possible to disable the "Administrators" group.
- Click OK.

You can copy the rights defined in the On-line and Off-line profiles of a user group to a new user group. This functionality is useful when creating user groups with similar rights.
To copy the rights defined in each user group profile, proceed as follows:
- Click the
button, then click Advanced Network.
- In the top portion of the view, select the group for which you want to copy the defined rights.
- In the toolbar, click the
button.
The Group Properties dialog box displays. - Define the user group properties.
The user group properties consists of the following data:

Name
Enter the name to use to identify the user group.
Details
Enter the information that identifies the type of users included in the group.
Allow local installation
Select this check box to allow users to install a copy of the complete version of the Personal Taxprep on their computer.
Note: It is not recommended to select this check box in a Citrix or Terminal Service work environment.
Work Off-line
Select this check box to allow users to work in an off-line mode, i.e., not being connected to the Taxprep server.
Disable the group
Select this check box to disable a user group. It is not possible to disable the "Administrators" group.
- Click OK.
Note: The new user group does not contain any users.

To set group properties, proceed as follows:
- Click the
button, then click Advanced Network.
- In the top portion of the view, select the group for which you want to modify the properties.
- Click the Set group properties button.
The Group Properties dialog box displays. - Define
the user group properties.
The user group properties consists of the following data:

Name
Enter the name to use to identify the user group.
Details
Enter the information that identifies the type of users included in the group.
Allow local installation
Select this check box to allow users to install a copy of the complete version of the Personal Taxprep on their computer.
Note: It is not recommended to select this check box in a Citrix or Terminal Service work environment.
Work Off-line
Select this check box to allow users to work in an off-line mode, i.e., not being connected to the Taxprep server.
Disable the group
Select this check box to disable a user group. It is not possible to disable the "Administrators" group.
- Click OK.
Note: The properties of the user list cannot be modified.

Once the user accounts and user groups have been created, you can drag and drop users from one group to another.
To assign user accounts to a different group, proceed as follows:
- Click the
button, then click Advanced Network.
- In the top portion of the view, select the user group to which the users belong (or use the user list).
- In the lower part of the view, select the user accounts that you want to move.
- Drag the user accounts to the user group to which you want them to belong, and then release the mouse button.
You can also change the group for a user account when you define its properties.
Note: A user can only be the member of one group at a time.

To delete a user group, proceed as follows:
- Click the
button, then click Advanced Network.
- In the top portion of the view, select the group that you want to delete.
- Click the
button.
- Click Yes to confirm the request to delete the user group.
