Open a Client File Created With a Prior Version of Personal Taxprep
You can add shortcuts to client files that were created in another version of Personal Taxprep. Once created, the shortcut will allow you to quickly access the client file directly from the current version of Personal Taxprep as long as the corresponding version is installed and accessible.
When rolling forward a prior-year client file, a shortcut to the client file will be automatically added. If the client file is opened, this shortcut will be available using the Prior Year/Open last year's client file command from the File menu or by pressing Ctrl+E.
From the Tax Return view, the Prior Year command in the File menu allows you to access client files for which a shortcut has been created. You can also modify or delete existing shortcuts and create shortcuts.
How to access a client file using a shortcut
From the Tax Return view:
In the File menu, click Prior Year and select the desired shortcut from the list of available shortcuts.
From the Client Manager:
Select the client file from which you have created the shortcut. In the shortcut menu, click Prior Year and select the desired shortcut from the list of available shortcuts.
How to modify a shortcut to a prior-year client file
Already created shortcuts to prior-year client files can be modified from the Tax Return view, for example, if the target client file has been moved.
- From the File menu, click Prior Year, then click Edit Shortcut and select the desired shortcut form the list of available shortcuts.
The Modify Shortcut dialog box displays. - Select the folder, then select the client file you want to access with the shortcut.
- Click Open.
How to delete a shortcut to a prior-year client file
To delete a shortcut from the Tax Return view, proceed as follows:
- From the File menu, click Prior Year,
then Delete Shortcut then select the shortcut to be deleted.
A message will prompt you to confirm the deletion. - Click Yes to confirm.
How to create a shortcut to a prior-year client file
To create a shortcut to a prior-year client file from the Tax Return view, proceed as follows:
- From the File menu, click Prior Year,
then click New Shortcut.
The Add Shortcut dialog box displays. - Select the client file for which you want to create a shortcut.
- Click Open.
