About Locking
Taxprep for Trusts provides three types of locking:
Locking data
You can lock data to prevent it from being changed during a work session. Once data is locked, new information cannot be entered but you can still display, print and transmit the return.
Password protection
Locking files with a password allows you to protect access to client files. When a file is password-protected, it cannot be opened or printed without providing the correct password.
Data in the password-protected file is not displayed in the Client Manager, but replaced by asterisks (*). Only the basic attributes of the file (such as the file name and the date on which the file was last modified) are displayed.
If you often work with password-protected files, Taxprep for Trusts allows you to store passwords within a password list. This feature means that you no longer have to enter passwords in order to open client files and all data in the file will also be displayed in the Client Manager.
Read-only access
When working on a network, several users may try to open the same file at the same time.
If you try to open a file that someone is already working on, you will receive a message indicating that the file is currently in use by another user.
