List of the Different Types of Cells

The following table contains a detailed list of the different types of cells which may be found in the forms. The colours below reflect Personal Taxprep’s default settings. The colours may vary if they have been customized.

Input cell

Cell in which a value can be entered.

Black text on background the same colour as the form

Protected cell

Cell in which no direct input or override is possible.

Black text on grey background

 

Overrideable cell

Calculated or posted cells in which the content can be replaced by direct input.

Black text on pink background

 

Overridden cell

Calculated or posted cell in which the content has been replaced by direct input.

Posted cell

Cell whose content comes from another form. The source form can be accessed by double-clicking the amount or pressing F9.

Rolled forward cell

Cell whose content comes from the roll forward of a prior year client file, or from a file prepared by a competitor's program.

Black text on yellow background

Cell with data entered last year

Cell in which data was entered last year and in which no value has been entered or rolled forward in the current year.

Cell with data downloaded from the CRA

Cell in which data has been downloaded from the CRA using the TaxprepConnect download function.

Cell with data downloaded from RQ

Cell in which data has been downloaded from Revenu Québec using the TaxprepConnect download function.

Cell with data downloaded and then modified

Cell in which data was first downloaded from the CRA or Revenu Québec using the TaxprepConnect download function and whose content was then replaced by a direct input.

Annotated cell

Cell to which a note or schedule has been attached.

Red triangle in the upper right corner

 

Cell with diagnostic

Cell for which a diagnostic has been issued.

Blue triangle in the lower right corner

 

Cell with tax link

Cell with a help link to a tax reference source.

Red indicator in the upper right corner

Cell with review mark

Cell that has been marked as the result of a review. Five types of review marks exist.

Items search cell

Cell for which there is a search tool allowing you to filter and find items in a list. For example, this type of cell is used in Forms T1134A (Jump Code: 1134A and T1134B (Jump Code: 1134B).

Cell from a federal form with a corresponding Québec cell.

Red arrow in the lower left corner

Québec, if different cell (overridden amount)

Cell from a federal form with a corresponding Québec cell that has been overridden.
